About Us
Superlatives flow when describing what Wagga Kangaroos have done for Rugby League in particular, and the community in general, over many years. Of all the words which could best sum up Kangaroo's contribution, perhaps "magnificent" would come closest.
But even this does not fully relate to just what our mighty club represents and what we have meant to generations who have followed "the greatest game of all".
Of course the club goes back further than its inaugural senior season of 1954 and we are proud to boast our origins' date from the early 1920s.
It is also, I believe, noteworthy that our club name originated from the Wagga Wagga to Sydney march of volunteers heading off to join Australia's forces in World War I. They called these courageous and noble men Kangaroos. When it came time, several years later, to start a football club it was fittingly decided to commerate that epic journey and the brave hearts who went off to fight for freedom by calling it Kangaroos.
Thus began one of the most famous sporting organisations in country New South Wales.
Kangaroos record of first grade premierships is one to be envied. Add to that our club premierships and it is easy to understand why we are regarded as one of the yardsticks of Country Rugby League in terms of success and professionalism.
A long line of internationals have worn the cerise and blue over the years - stars who played Test football while still with Kangaroos or started their careers with our club.
Few, if any, other CRL clubs could lay claim to having the array of talent enjoyed by Kangaroos during half a century of achievement and glory.
This is a fine club...the best club. Deep within every Kangaroo burns a fierce spirit which will ensure the club prospers for many more seasons to come.
Comradeship is the common thread binding the fabric which is Kangaroos and it is this mateship, sense of belonging and support for each other which brings us together.
Since our inaugural senior season of 1954, and earlier origins in the 1920's, Wagga Kangaroos have developed into a community that boasts excellence through club spirit, culture and pride. Wagga Kangaroos are the most successful club in the history of Group Nine with 12 premiership titles to our name.
Wagga Kangaroos and Wagga Kangaroos Juniors have produced some of the biggest talents in the game who have represented at an NRL, State of Origin and Australian level including: Peter Sterling, Tom Raudonikis, Jamie Soward, Steve Martin, Greg Hawick, Marc Glanville, Nigel Plum, Luke Priddis, Cameron Bruest, Scott Glanville, Cameron King, Geoff Lawson, Jeff Case, Paul Upfield, Greg Watt, Adam McCallum, Jermaine Packer, Michael Parker-Walsh, Jason Keough, Len Gaffey, Craig Hiscock and Paul Tilden.
